Ranskill Primary School

Ranskill is a small and friendly school, located on the outskirts of the village. We serve the communities of Ranskill, Torworth, Barnby Moor, Serlby and Scrooby and have several children in school from outside the catchment area. There are currently 68 children on roll.

 There is a strong community spirit in school, the children behave well, our results are high, numbers are rising but class sizes are still small (averaging 22). This means that we really get to know our pupils and help them develop as individuals. The school is tidy and well maintained and all the classes have new furniture. We have a huge field and pleasant environment.

 In January 2004 we had a very successful Ofsted inspection, which praised the excellent behaviour and attitudes of the children, the high standards of teaching and learning and the leadership and management of the school.  It also praised the strong links between the school and parents, and the welcoming family atmosphere of the school.

 We have a supportive and active governing body and Friends of the School Association, who organize a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year. There is a pre-school group, a mother and toddler afternoon and a nursery, which meet in the school, which means that we can know and nurture our children from 0 to 11. There is also an out of school club, which provides childcare each evening. We have regular assemblies where parents and visitors are made welcome.

 Ranskill pupils usually transfer to the Elizabethan High School in Retford and we have very close links with the staff there. The local small schools whose pupils transfer to Elizabethan work very closely together to ensure that the children all know each other prior to transfer. We hold joint sports days, concerts and other liaison activities.
